Overcome Mind Sets

Money or Mammon?
Money in and of itself is not evil. It is simply a tool and resource. Jesus personified money into a spirit of greed (or mammon) when he said we cannot serve two masters. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood.” Remember, it is not a physical object you battle, but a spirit that encourages greed and a desire to withhold that which the Lord has blessed you with from others.

Luke 16:13 – "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Poverty
Poverty exists among the rich and poor. It is viewed as a physical situation, but is based in spiritual bondage. It is a mind-set that convinces us that we must “store up for ourselves”… that we don’t have enough for tomorrow. It restricts our giving, generosity and contentment thereby creating an invisible “black-hole” that steals away the blessing of wealth.

Proverbs 11:24-25 – One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Wealthy and Prosperous
The Lord has blessed us with the ability to make money. To bring provision and security home to our families. And asks for so little in return. When He blesses us with prosperity, He also blesses us with wisdom.  But only if we seek Him first. It is not an impossible requirement for being wealthy. So, why do we find it so difficult to do?

Daniel 4:27 – Therefore, O king, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue."
The Bible tells me so...

Deuteronomy 5:33  Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

Proverbs 11:10  When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

Proverbs 28:25  A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

Jeremiah 29:7  Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

Proverbs 28:22  A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.

2 Corinthians 8:2  Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.

Deuteronomy 8:18  But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

Proverbs 22:4  Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.

1 Timothy 6:17  Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
About us...

Eric & Michelle Sikma were married in 1985 in Anchorage, Alaska. During the Summer of 1989, in an attempt to escape, they moved to Seattle, Washington.

Two years later, the Lord drew them back to Alaska. However, attempting to escape again, they moved even further south to Florida… vowing never to return.  The Lord used this time to teach and train both of them in business, administration, management, and financial accountability. Tough lessons were learned about personal finances and the black hole of debt that brought them to their knees.

At this point of humility, in 2003, the Lord again had His way, and brought them back to Alaska. Lessons learned, they worked in faith and trusted in the Lord to show them His way out of this black hole of debt.

Putting the Word of God into practice for financial blessings, and the “Law of Firstfruits”, the Lord responded… and within two years, a debt of $40,000 was virtually gone.

The Lord then watered the seed He planted within them for financial freedom and ministry to others. A revelation of the marketplace as a mission field and to bring the Church outside of the four walls was fired and fueled.

A passion to bring the Biblical approach to finances and working out in the marketplace was put in place, and is the foundation of their ministry.

The TRUE Marketplace!
Luke 10:2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

What the Bible says about Mamon...

Matthew 6:24-34
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
